Who owns the assets and files once the project is done?
TL;DR
You do. Everything the agency builds is handed over when the project closes: the site, the domain and the CMS end up in your name, with admin access for your team. If an agency resists giving you control of your own domain or CMS, treat it as a red flag. If you can leave whenever you want, you chose well.
At the end of the project, against full payment, the client keeps the deliverables and assets developed by Ander.Agency. That includes the website, agreed files, access and the CMS in a client account. The agency should not own your commercial infrastructure.
Real ownership shows up in access
It is not enough for an agency to say the website is yours. You have to be able to verify it in practice: domain under your company’s name, CMS or Webflow account under your control, administrator access for your team and design files delivered according to scope.
When we develop in Webflow, we transfer the project to the client’s account at the end. The website does not stay trapped in an account operated by the agency. That difference matters when you want to change providers, add an internal team or audit your own infrastructure.
An agency that blocks control is selling dependency
If someone avoids talking about ownership, does not deliver access or makes simple changes conditional on ongoing support, treat it as a warning sign. Lock in does not always show up as a strange clause. Sometimes it shows up as an account you do not control, a CMS nobody understands or a design that is impossible to edit without the original provider.
